Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture to Open Facilities with Restrictions Defined by State

Community Recreation Center

In alignment with the state’s latest “Safer at Home” health orders, the Town of Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture Department will re-open the Community Recreation Center, Chimney Park Pool, Windsor Lake rentals, playgrounds and baseball fields to the public on Monday, June 8 with safety restrictions imposed by the state. The re-opening plans include reduced facility capacities, limited gatherings, recommended social distancing guidelines and enhanced cleaning and sanitizing efforts.

“Staff were elated to hear the news about re-opening our facilities,” says Acting Deputy Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture Tara Fotsch. “They’ve gone above and beyond in preparing plans for a safe re-opening. We’re as anxious to see our patrons as they are to see us. Our hope is that these restrictions are temporary and that we can increase our capacity soon.”

In order to comply with state guidelines, Windsor Community Recreation Center has spread out and/or limited access to fitness equipment to help assist guests with social distancing and limit room capacity to 25%.

All members must sign up for time slot for individual workouts and fitness classes. Members can make reservations beginning Friday, June 5 at 5 p.m. Reservations can be made at recreationliveshere.com/RecReg. Community Recreation Center memberships and payments were suspended due to the facility closure that started on March 16. The month of June will be comped due to the facility being closed and all billing will be reinstated on Monday, July 6. If members prefer to keep their membership on hold, they are asked to visit recreationliveshere.com/MembershipHold.

All virtual fitness classes except Silver Sneakers will be cancelled beginning June 8. For weekly updates to the in-person fitness schedule, visit recreationliveshere.com/Schedule.

The Windsor Community Recreation Center indoor pool will open for up to a maximum of 50 people per two hour increments. For lap swim and Aqua Aerobics, members must sign up for a time slot. Reservations can be made at recreationliveshere.com/RecReg.

Chimney Park Pool will also operate under safety guidelines set forth by the state. Chairs have been spaced and directional signage added to keep the flow of traffic in the building. Visitors will need to sign up for 2-hour incremental use and the cost is $4 per person, regardless of age. Sign-ups will be available starting Friday, June 5 at 5 p.m. at recreationliveshere.com/RecReg.

Group, semi-private and private swim lessons are not available at Chimney Park Pool or Community Recreation Center at this time.

The Windsor Lake swim beach will also open to the public. Boat rentals will be offered to a maximum of 10 people for each 30-minute time slot with 15 minutes between to clean equipment. The cost is $7 per boat. It is recommended participants bring their own Coast Guard approved lifejacket. However, lifejackets will still be provided. Concessions will not be offered at this time.

The Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture Department encourages all facility users wear a mask. Town staff are required to wear a mask at all facilities.

Playgrounds and athletic complexes will also open.
