Artist Bios for 2025/26

Sean Yarbrough

Born and raised in Colorado, my first and foremost artistic inspiration stems from my father, Carl, whose career as a professional freelance photographer enabled him to travel the world, and experience beautiful, wild landscapes, unique cultures, and top athletes. Carl's lifelong dedication to his creative path continues to inspire me to this day.

My aim as an artist is to awaken the spirit within and remind us of its infinite potential and integral role in our interconnected cosmic web of existence.  I intend for my art to invoke a deep contemplation of the transcendent human consciousness and the infinitely vast universe that is our home. I studied sculpture and painting in college and am now a 3rd generation metal worker creating outdoor kinetic and stationary sculptures inspired by nature, geometry, time and spirit.

Reno Carollo

Making art is a process of exploring myself through materials, processes and statements. It is a very self-indulging act and I love the time for me to learn and challenge my understanding of the world around me. I am addicted to the process of making! Be it a ring, a sculpture or a painting, I love participating in the act of making something. The one-word descriptor l use to describe myself is "Maker". Art is in the making; it's how I see the world. It's the visual stimulation that enters my brain and gets interpreted, dissected and reconfigured in my form. To me, that is what making is about. Be that form in a jewelry piece, a sculpture or a painting, it is what art making is. The exploration of what surrounds me and what I choose to add or not add is what makes my art. In our information age, with all the technology moving faster and faster, and invention outpacing our current grasp, I find it exhilarating being alive and able to explore and create in this time period. It is my joy to share my interpretation of our world through my art.

Kevin W Shaffer

Kevin Wayne Shaffer was born and raised in a Mid-Western landscape of tall grass prairie and Oak savanna. This place in the Heartland, a work-hard-playhard ethic was engrained on a horse ranch, and the ever-present Prairie Style inspired Kevin’s development to eventually study architecture, land planning, landscape architecture, horticulture, and sculpture. The years of experience and progression in design thought has influenced Kevin’s art and design career to seek a minimalist approach; honest in the details with naturally rich materials. Kevin prefers to join art media and sustainable built environments in a way to inspire ways of living, create environmental awareness, and reduce maintenance and over-management. Kevin’s design process is a product of project specifics. A common question at the beginning of any project would be, “What is found in the meaning of the context extracted from site specific research?” The research of history and region, responsibilities towards the environment, local culture, and functionality versus aesthetics; these are all important areas of study and time well spent to this transplant with roots now in the United States’ Mountain Time Zone.

Sandy Friedman

The environment of the Southwest significantly influences my work. My sculptures represent the energy found in totems and the interaction of the positive and negative spaces created by the sculpture's shapes. These represent moments in time depicted in a static state.

My work is displayed in southwestern galleries including the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center as well as larger scale public art seen in communities across Colorado, Texas, Wyoming, Indiana, Iowa, California, Mississippi, South Dakota, Kansas and Missouri.
